Liberal Celebrities: How Far Left Are They?
Hollywood and other popular culture industries are breeding grounds for left-wing politics. Many of today’s top stars are pronounced liberals, at least on the surface. Is being a Democrat a prerequisite for superstardom in Hollywood and music? One can only speculate. It does appear the more popular the person is, the harder left they lean politically. Coincidence I think not.
Let’s start low on the liberal scale and work our way left.
Cardi B
Cardi’s interview with Joe Biden is still amusing and appalling to this day. Out of the numerous intelligent Black women who could have talked with the former Vice President, his handlers chose an intellectual moron who feeds into almost every negative Black stereotype. In the interview, she mentioned how she wants free college and free healthcare, but lower taxes. Not possible, especially for someone in her tax bracket. She does not appear to have a solid foundation of knowledge to draw from and is quite possibly riding the liberal wave in order to maintain her popularity and cultural clout. Many other millennials and Generation Z rappers fall into this category such as Meg Thee Stallion and DaBaby. She ranks low on the scale.
LeBron James
LBJ has been extremely vocal on the political front for a number of years now. In 2015, he made appearances on Hillary Clinton’s campaign tour to help persuade voters. In recent months on social media, James preaches about how racist and oppressive America is (despite his $480 million net worth), he implicitly invokes violence against the police and feeds his Black followers the victimhood narrative. A 6’9” 250-pound athlete proclaiming that he is “scared” as a Black American is not only unmasculine but poisonous teachings to the generations behind him. LeBron may not be the most educated to speak on these matters.
In his latest book, Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter, 50 Cent spoke on his venture into the boxing industry. In short, he says it requires extreme amounts of physical and mental bandwidth to become even an average boxer. The nonstop training leaves very little time or energy to stay informed about other areas outside their realm of expertise. This could possibly be true for many other professional athletes, LeBron included. LBJ has lived a life of shelter and privilege that might have stunted his world and political views. It is not entirely his fault.
Jay-Z
S Dot Carter is an interesting case. He has never given a definitive statement about his political beliefs, but his actions are that of a liberal elitist (or as Al Sharpton calls them “latte liberals”). He and his wife, Beyonce, are friends with the Obamas, he is at the forefront of the NFL’s social justice movement and is active in criminal justice reform with his REFORM Alliance organization.
On the flip side, Jay-Z might be one of the world’s best chameleons. He can change his colors and become whatever he needs to be, whenever he needs to be it. In 1998, his smash hit “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” consisted of many conservative themes because society was more right-leaning back then. He ditched the baggy pants and fitted baseball caps when he needed to. He “retired” when he needed to. He latches on to the star power of acts around him (Beyonce, Kanye, Rihanna, DJ Khaled) when he needs to. He is now growing his hair out...because he needs to. Jay is quite possibly just blending in with the current climate because it is in his best interest to do so.
Eminem
Marshall Mathers clearly does not like the Republican party. Conservatives like George Bush, Ann Coulter and Donald Trump have been some of his punching bags in recent memory. He showed that his animosity for Trump has not wavered when he appeared on the Kid Cudi track “The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady” earlier this year. Eminem has publicly endorsed Barack Obama. In a 2012 interview, Eminem said that Obama is great and voted for him twice.
Earlier in his career, he was the posterchild of counter culture, pushing back on censorship, homosexuality and other liberal talking points. Perhaps he has had a political metamorphosis of sorts. He appears to be a solid, middle-of-the-road Democrat now.
Tim McGraw & Faith Hill
McGraw and his wife Faith Hill are both proud Democrats, which angers many of his fans and Country music listeners who lean conservative. This bucks a trend of many Country music stars shying away from political discourse. The Country music power couple has spoken out on gun control, the rallies in Charlottesville and have publicly endorsed Barack Obama. According to a 2017 piece written by Emily Yahr of The Washington Post, the couple is grandfathered in and most of the backlash will not hurt them. McGraw was even recruited to run for the Democratic Senate seat in the state of Tennessee, which he later declined.
Cher
The former Grammy, Oscars and Golden Globe Award winner is also a stone-cold liberal. Since 2016, she has relentlessly bashed Donald Trump, calling him an “ignorant thug”, wishing him to “fall off the face of the Earth” and asking the question, “WHAT KIND OF PRESIDENT IS HE!?” in regards to his illegal immigration stances. In a virtual fundraiser, while raising $2 million for the Biden/Harris campaign, she asked the audience, “Do you believe in life after Trump?” She has even slammed the entire red party claiming they are “heartless”. To be fair, she has criticized Democrats, highlighted by this 2019 tweet where she says the Dems do not know how to win an election:

Jemele Hill
There are not too many celebrities that are as far left as Jemele Hill at the moment. When her sports journalism career flamed out at ESPN, she turned to politics as her new source of income. Saying that she is racist is just the tip of the iceberg. She is seemingly pro-segregationist, a Black supremacist and part of I’ve dubbed the Lunacy Left. Her resume of radicalized tweets is 20% OMG, 30% LOL and 50% SMH.
In a tweet-and-delete, she joked that Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should have shouted during a President Trump State of the Union address "GETCHO HAND OUT MY POCKET", which is what someone yelled at Malcolm X moments before he was assassinated in 1965. She later apologized.
She once compared current-day America to Nazi Germany:
