Thank You Jussie Smollett. Now Young People Think It's Okay to Manufacture Racism
Ever since D-Level actor Jussie Smollett falsely claimed that two white men physically assaulted him, doused him in bleach, tied a rope around his neck, all while using racial slurs (it sounds even more ridiculous now than it did back then), there has been an increase in phony racial incidents. It may not seem that way because the media chooses which phony incidents to cover. There was the Bubba Wallace noose nonsense the media ate up. Oregon politician Jonathan Lopez, who filed a police report claiming someone placed a racist letter in his mailbox only to later confess that he placed the letter there himself, has not been covered at all by major media outlets (I guess it does not fit Don Lemon’s narrative). Another story of fake racism not being covered is the story coming out of College Station, TX. Isaih Martin, a senior at Texas A&M University, reported to the police that there were 3 handwritten signs on his car: signs reading “All Lives Matter”, “You Don’t Belong Here”, and one with the N-word. Upon video investigation, the police discovered that Martin placed the signs there himself. You will not hear the ladies from The View cover this story.
To be fair, racial hoaxes are not a new phenomenon. They have been going on quite regularly since Trump has been elected. In 2017, a black student at St. Olaf College in Minnesota claimed to have found a racist note on her car. Later, it was discovered that the incident, which set off campus-wide protests and caused the cancellation of many classes, was fabricated. In 2018, another black student, this time at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, was responsible for a hoax where the phrase “I’m gonna kill all niggas” was spray painted in a bathroom.
What do these cases along with the Smollett and Wallace incidents say about America? Perhaps the country is not as racist as some would like us to believe. So in order to affirm their beliefs, some people create racist moments to be enraged about. Reportedly, less than 33% of these sorts of allegations are true. The media selectively chooses these hoaxes to broadcast to the nation, further traumatizing the masses and adding fuel to a racial wildfire that is already out of control. Most of the blame will fall at the feet of Trump (because people are upset Obama could not get a 3rd term), while the perpetrators get fame, notoriety, and more Twitter followers. And we know people will do the damndest things for a little fame. Punishment? A slap on the wrist. When Jussie Smollett and Bubba Wallace become bigger stars for racial hoaxes, this encourages more young and immature people to follow suit, creating a disgusting cycle of manufactured racism, traumatization, fear, and more garbage for entertainment networks like CNN and ABC to air to grow their ratings.
