Of Course LeBron James Should Have More MVPs

The headline of this piece is one of the most obvious statements in sports. It is like saying water is wet.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said last night (March 18), "It's a mistake on the voters' part to go season after season without voting the best player in the league MVP."

The best player in the league does not always deserve the Most Valuable Player award. Other factors can take precedence over sheer statistical prowess. There is quite a bit of politics involved with MVP voting in every sport.

What years was LeBron snubbed for MVP?

Let's start in the 2010-11 season.

Bulls point guard Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history. It was a feel-good story. The former number overall pick leads his hometown team to the league's best record and an MVP Award in the process.

On the other side, LeBron, who won the previous two MVP Awards, had received heavy criticism for his ESPN The Decision spectacle the last offseason. This could have been the sports journalists sending LeBron a message. James had the better season by most of the important metrics, though the Heat finished four games worse than Rose's Bulls that season.

Then there is the 2014-15 season.

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, known as the Splash Brothers, were shining in the national spotlight. Curry, who had a spectacular season that included an insane 91% clip from the charity stripe, was rivaled by LeBron, who put forth a campaign equally as good as Curry's, in 11 fewer games played.

Should LeBron be an eight-time MVP like Kyle Kuzma suggest? Probably not, but you can make a strong argument he should have at least six.
